Stay Home & Do It Yourself: Vanilla Coconut Yogurt
Here’s another quarantine approved recipe, just for you!
Many of the common yogurt brands we’ve grown up with or come to love tend to contain a lot of sugar and unnecessary additives and fillers (that’s why they’re so addicting). It’s always important to read your labels when grocery shopping for packaged foods, but whenever possible it’s better to make it from scratch! Since we are all stuck in isolation, there is no better time to get creative and try making your own yogurt.
Ps. it’s really easy and can be modified to your personal preference!
Today I’ll be sharing a yummy coconut based yogurt recipe, if you don’t want to add any flavour or would like some added sweetness you can swap or any any of the ingredients!
This recipe is dairy-free and contains an abundance of probiotics which are beneficial for you immunity, digestion and gut health.
I N G R E D I E N T S
1 can organic coconut milk
2 probiotic pills
1 tsp vanilla extract or powder
cheese cloth or nut milk bag
rubberband
glass jar or bowl
whisk
wooden spoon
D I R E C T I O N S
Shake your can of coconut milk well then empty the can into a clean jar or bowl
Next, whisk the coconut milk until smooth and combined
Empty your probiotic capsules and mix using wooden spoon (not a metal whisk or spoon as it can react with the probiotics) for 1-2 minutes until blended
Use your cheese cloth or nut milk bag to cover the mixture and use a rubber band to secure
Allow the yogurt to sit for 24-48 hours in a warm place like your kitchen counter (the longer you let it sit, the creamier it becomes)
Once your yogurt is ready, add the vanilla extract and mix until combined. Optionally you may add honey or monk fruit for a touch of sweetness
Transfer yogurt into an air tight container or jar and store in the fridge
Enjoy with fresh fruit, in a smoothie, add into baking recipes, etc.
*Yogurt will keep fresh in the fridge for about 7 days*
Making your own yogurt is as simple as that!
The fun part about making it yourself is that you control the flavour and how much sweetener you want to use! There are no added unwanted ingredients, making this a much healthier alternative to store bought — not to mention it tastes so much better!
Get creative with your yogurt and using different ingredients
flavours: cinnamon, cacao, strawberry, blueberry, lemon, or raspberry
sweeteners: maple syrup, monk fruit, stevia, or coconut sugar
