Protect Yourself Against The Coronavirus
State of emergency, travel bans, school, business and work place closures, empty grocery store aisles and toilet paper shortages, are all reasons to believe how serious the spread of this virus is becoming.
Fortunately, there are steps you can take to lower your risk!
Keeping reading to learn more.
Here are some important tips to protect yourself and the spread of coronavirus:
Wash your hands & carry hand sanitizer: as obvious as it may seem, this is the first step in protecting yourself. The coronavirus cannot be directly transmitted through the skin, you must lead the virus into the mouth or nose, where it then makes its way to the lungs via touching your face, being sneezed on, kissing, sharing straws or any other contact with these areas of your face. Keep reminding yourself to “not touch your face” especially when out in public. Once you arrive home, immediately wipe down items with disinfectant that were brought in from outside, ie; keys, cell phone, wallet, packages, etc. after following these steps, thoroughly wash your hands.
Test yourself every morning: the Stanford hospital board recently announced the virus may not show signs of infection for many days/serious symptoms, meaning you could have the virus without even knowing and potentially spread it further to people who may be at high risk like children, elderly and others with a compromised immune system. Taiwanese experts have provided a simple and quick self-check method: Take a deep breath and hold your breath for more than 10 seconds. If you can successfully complete this without coughing, discomfort, stiffness or tightness etc. it MAY indicate there is no fibrosis in the lungs, but do not disregard other signs or symptoms, this is just a simple lung test that you can do each morning. When you are checking, make sure you’re in an environment with clean air. Additionally, everyone should ensure their mouths are and throats are moist, never dry, take a few sips of water or other liquid every 15 minutes to stay hydrated.
Don’t stress: it’s important to note that stressing about a situation isn’t going to make it better! Fear and stress are two major factors that contribute to lowering your immune system, which can increase your chances of getting sick. Therefore, try not to get worked up about situations you cannot control, distract yourself from the news and media and try to spend more time engaging in activities that relieve stress like working out, yoga, taking a hot bath, meditating, etc.
Supplement with antiviral herbs: due to the powerful concentration of compounds found in these herbs they may help fight off viruses and deeply strengthen the immune system. Here are the top antiviral herbs you can start using today that are also great for lung health:
Oregano
Garlic
Ginger
Echinacea
Thyme
Sage
Peppermint
Eucalyptus
It’s important to stay at home and contact your doctor/consider getting tested if you’re experiencing any of the following symptoms; runny nose, sore throat, cough, fever, difficulty breathing, pressure in the chest, or persistent pain. Stay safe and try to utilize all the ways you can to boost your immune system.
